I'm not saying they're not useful, but letting them wander around willy-nilly the way Kerrigan does?  

Why was Jim stranded on a random moon where only Kerrigan could reach him?  I like to think he ran into some epic space battle and was dramatically, heart-wrenchingly separated from his crew, whom he nobly commanded to abandon him, for their own safety.

That or the Hyperion ran out of booze, and he jumped overboard.
